WHO WE ARE
House of Prayer Durban
Our journey began in the early 80’s with a weekly Bible Study of university students from Frere Road Presbyterian Church. We were looking to rent premises once a month and ended up buying the Methodist Church in Fremantle Road, Hillary. In July of 1983 a church called Fremantle Road Christian Fellowship was birthed.
This was to be home until 2001 when the church, now called the House of Prayer purchased land in Ethelbert Road, Queensburgh and built the current Church building.
Our name captures clearly who we are and comes from Isaiah 56:7 and quoted by Jesus in the Gosples. “My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations.” We have our greatest sense of destiny when we connect with the nations.
Over the years the Lord has added the most amazing people into our lives to help us walk fully into all that He has called us to.
OUR PRAYER
On earth as it is in heaven…
The Lord’s Prayer in Matt 6:9-10 is precisely how we are called to live lives that please the heavenly Father. We are called to live the life of Heaven on earth. Right here, right now.
Your Name be honoured,
Your Kingdom come.
Your Will be done.
On earth as it is in heaven.
We believe that the message of the Kingdom of God was central to all Jesus said and did. This Gospel of the Kingdom must therefore to be central to the life and message of His Church today. Our task is to SHOW the world His eternal Kingdom, then TELL them how they can become part of it.
OUR MEETINGS
When we meet
In the Book of Acts the early Church met publically in the Temple and privately from house to house. (Acts 2:46, Acts 5:42) Church is more than a weekly meeting on a Sunday and must spill over in shared lives together in our homes.
On Sundays we have three Sunday Services
- Queensburgh @ 8am and @ 6pm
- Eagles Rest Mission, Shongweni @ 10am
During the week we have Connect Groups in the homes. Here we develop a deeper sense of family and community.
We aim to have Connect Groups for 3 weeks a month and to set aside the third week of each month for MINISTRIES.
OUR VALUES
What is important
to us.
Our values guide our words and actions, aiming to walk faithfully before the Lord. We prioritize being born again in the Spirit for eternal life (John 3:3,5) and believe in eternal judgment. Regular prayer and scripture study are paramount, as is gathering weekly as a community (Hebrews 10:25). We uphold the authority of Scripture and strive for deep understanding rather than surface-level knowledge. Our church is family, with each member having a divine purpose (Ephesians 4:16, Acts 20:24). We aim to be a church that withstands all challenges (Matthew 16:18) and prioritize fostering intergenerational connections. Ultimately, we live surrendered lives to God, recognizing His sacrifice and our obligation to Him (Romans 12:1-2).
